When I first heard I could work with a registered dietitian for FREE through Nourish, I’ll be honest: I thought it was too good to be true.
My journey with food and body image has been tumultuous, to say the least. Growing up, I was bombarded with mixed messages about dieting, body standards, and what it means to be “healthy”…and social media definitely didn’t do me any favors.
I’ve tried countless fad diets, intense workouts, and even intermittent fasting, but nothing was sustainable long term, and instead just left me feeling discouraged. I knew I needed a change, something sustainable and positive, but I didn’t know where to start. That’s when I discovered Nourish and the opportunity to work with a registered dietitian—and the best part? It’s completely covered by my insurance!
Finding Nourish: How did I not know about this sooner?
I came across Nourish through a friend’s recommendation. She couldn’t stop raving about how it had changed not only her relationship with food, but it also helped her confidence skyrocket! Skeptical but hopeful, I decided to give it a try. I’m so glad I did!
The site was user-friendly, and in under a minute I was able to take a quiz to see if they took my insurance. I was shocked that they accept hundreds of insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Anthem, United Healthcare, Medicare, and more! The fact that this service was covered by my insurance was a game-changer. I pay literally $0 out of pocket!
Then I was matched with a registered dietitian who specializes in my specific needs!
The First Steps: Building Trust with my Dietitian
My initial consultation with my dietitian, Allison, was eye-opening. She listened to my story without judgment, validating my experiences and feelings. She asked me all sorts of questions about my medical history, different diets I’ve done over the years, and really sought to understand my personal goals. For the first time, I felt like I wasn’t alone in my struggles. Allison emphasized that our work together wasn’t about restrictive dieting or aiming for a certain number on the scale. Instead, it was about rebuilding my relationship with food, understanding my body’s needs, and feeling good.
After our first session, I started taking pictures of my meals and logging them in the Nourish app (no calorie counting— just photos!) which was super easy. Then in our second session, we went over what I ate the past week and talked through how I noticed different foods were making me feel. We reviewed my meals and she gave me small, sustainable tweaks I could make for the next week of meals. I felt totally supported and not judged at all, especially since I had eaten out multiple times that week!
After more sessions together, I’ve really gotten to know my body better, and I don’t stress about food like I used to. I have so much more energy too!
Looking Forward: What’s next?
This experience with Nourish and my dietitian has taught me that feeling “healthy” is more than a quick fix fad diet. Instead, it’s a continuous journey of self-discovery and growth! All while still being able to eat my favorite foods.
For anyone struggling with their relationship with food and body image, I can’t recommend Nourish and working with a registered dietitian enough. The personalized support and evidence-based approach have been life-changing for me. And knowing that it’s fully covered by my insurance has made this essential care accessible and stress-free.
